Genealogical research regarding the Edward Harris Barrett family of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was a descendant of Humphrey Barrett of Concord, Massachusetts, who came to America in 1639 from England (likely County Kent). Edward was born 1818 in Warner, New Hampshire; moved to Christian County, Illinois (1851); pioneered in Utica, Minnesota (1854); Wasioja (1870) and later (1875) moved to Minneapolis. He lived in Idaho and Washington, but returned to Minneapolis where he died in 1907.

ReplyDeleteThe source of this data is from a gedcom I found on the net - it's in the link. I am not aware of any actual birth books. Maybe Winona County has an index.
ReplyDeleteSpecifically for William Johnson Barrett's birth: as for it being Utica, they were living there in 1858 and 1860 so it must be. As for the year, 1858 fits best, as he is 1 year old on the 13Jul1860 census and 11 on the 25Jun1870 census. With a birthday in Sep, it must be 1858. As for the day, its 4 or 14. I've seen both listed various places, but can't find original source records.
Rose, can you post Willie J's obit -- that would be great. Obits usually have the most mistakes on birth dates and places, so I'm not surprised about the birth place saying Wasioja. Our kids don't keep up with all the details of our lives ;0
