Benjamin(3) Barrett was born January 9, 1734; died at Fosterville, Cayuga County, N.Y. He was at Concord Bridge on the morning of the 19th of April, 1775, and participated in the pursuit of the British on their retreat; afterwards served in many of the battles of the Revolution.
Edward’s grandfather, Benjamin(4) Barrett, died in Fosterville, but we have that his great-grandfather, Benjamin(3) Barrett, died in Ashby, MA.

Of the four children of Benjamin(2) and Rebecca (Jones) Barrett, Benjamin(2) and Jonas settled in Ashby. Benjamin(2) b. Jan. 9, 1735, md. Nov. 24, 1761, Sarah Merriam of Lexington; he md. (2d) Feb. 18, 1786, Hannah Jones who d. 12-8-1831. He d. Sept. 14, 1811.

(V) Benjamin Barrett, son of Benjamin Barrett (4), was born in Concord, January 9, 1734¬1735, and died, September 14, 1811. He married, November 14, 1861, Sarah Merriam, born 1735, died 1781; he married second, Hannah Jones, born 1742, died 1831, daughter of William and Sarah (Locke) Jones. He was in the Revolution, serving as private in Captain Samuel Jones company. Colonel Samuel Prescott’s regiment, on the Lexington alarm, April 19, 1775. The time of service was fifteen and one half days. Children, born in Ashby, Massachusetts: 1. Benjamin, born June 21, 1762; mentioned below. 2. Jonas Prescott, born September 2, 1764; died, October 31, 1781. 3. Mary, born March 25, 1767, died August 22, 1841; married, February 18, 1790, Josiah Whitney. 4. Lydia, born November 7, 1769; died, February 20, 1784. 5. John Beaton, December 5, 1774; died, April 5, 1800. 6. Joseph Merriam, born September 30, 1778; died, January 21, 1806; married, May, 1803, Sally Green.

The Commanding Officers of the Regts. Are directed to ¼ lb. of buck shott for every man fit for Duty in the respective Camps. The honorable, the Congress of the United States of America have for the Reward & encouragement of each non Commissioned Officer & Soldier who shall engage to serve during the War, further resolved to give every above the Bounty of 20 Dollars to each man annually with one complete suit of clothing which for the present year is to consist of two linen hunting shirts, two pair stockings, 2 pair of shoes, two pair of Overhalls, a leather or woolen jacket with sleeves, one pair of Breeches, one leather cap or hat amounting to 20 Dollars in the whole or that sum to be paid each soldier who shall procure those Articles for himself & produce a certificate thereof for the Capt. Of the Company to the Paymaster of the Regmt.
It was this campaign that Rev. William Emerson was taken ill and died. (See Chap. XXIV) The names of the patriots of Chelmsford who responded to the
Lexington alarm, preserved by Captain Ford, are here given, together with the number of days each was in service, in order that the reader may more clearly understand the confused state of the country at that time:--

Genealogical research regarding the Edward Harris Barrett family of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was a descendant of Humphrey Barrett of Concord, Massachusetts, who came to America in 1639 from England (likely County Kent). Edward was born 1818 in Warner, New Hampshire; moved to Christian County, Illinois (1851); pioneered in Utica, Minnesota (1854); Wasioja (1870) and later (1875) moved to Minneapolis. He lived in Idaho and Washington, but returned to Minneapolis where he died in 1907.
